As I write this, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is underway in Las Vegas and the electronics being unveiled today are what will be finding their way under your Christmas tree in December, or at least on your wish list.
I love to read up on the latest gadgets, technology and social media. However I'm too fiscally responsible (cheap) to actually fork out the money for most things though we just got a flat screen HD-TV and I guess PVR is next on the radar.
Items on display at CES include a 75-inch, full HD, 3D LED TV, desktop computers the size of your coffee cup and of course lots of tablets to compete with the iPad. (Check them out http://ces.cnet.com/)
If you are looking for a good, simple to use camera for pictures and video - ideal for blogging, I would suggest the Sony Bloggie. About $200 in BC before taxes and the environment fee, I picked mine up at the Sony outlet store near Seattle for about $140. It has a big button on front to record HD video (up to 1080p) a touch screen for other functions and flipping through pictures (12.8 megapixel stills) and a pop-out USB for easy upload to computer. It even has a full sized HDMI jack if you want to plug it into, say....a new flat screen HD TV!
One thing you will soon be hearing a lot about are QR Codes. QR stands for Quick Response. Think of it as a fancy barcode. I was sceptical about its use and application but now I see how it will change EVERYTHING we do. WIth a smartphone and the right app you will soon be able to get more information on any product, including homes or it will take you directly to a website. My QR code will eventually be on all my signs and information sheets. But I also see it eventually replacing debit cards and the way you shop. Lets say you are watching a late night infomercial and you HAVE TO HAVE a Snuggie https://www.snuggie.ca/flare/next all you will have to do is take a picture of the QR code on the screen and you will be billed and the product will be shipped to you the next day. Our computers, TV's and the way we communicate with one another is evolving and changing the way we connect with one another. Its hard to imagine what we will be oooh-ing and ahhh-ing about next year at this time!
